David Barbour holds a Diploma in Visual Communication (Photography) from the Banff Centre School of Fine Arts and a B.A. degree in Geography from the University of Saskatchewan. His area of specialization is portraiture, coverage of events and art.

David has been engaged in numerous and varied photographic assignments, among them as Curator/Producer of traveling photo exhibitions at the National Film Board of Canada, as a documentary photographer for the Canadian International Development Agency from 1984-95. As a free-lance professional photographer and artist since 1997, David's many clients have included the National Gallery of Canada, the Museum of Contemporary Photography, Canadian Geographic, and the National Library of Canada. In 1999, he received a mid-career grant from the Canada Council for the Arts to complete work in Havana, Cuba. His work has been exhibited at the City of Ottawa Art Gallery, the Carleton University Art Gallery, the Ottawa Art Gallery, Gallery 101, the Winnipeg Art Gallery and the Norman Mackenzie Art Gallery in Regina. David's work is also featured in the collections of Carleton University Art Gallery, the National Film Board of Canada, the Edmonton Art Gallery, the Canada Council Art Bank and the National Archives of Canada.
