Gérard began painting and drawing seriously in 1981. He has exhibited his paintings (oils and acrylics), drawings (caricature, comics, and illustration), and sculptures (moldings and assemblages) since 1984 in solo and group shows. His work is focused on portraits of persons and animals with a light touch of surrealism. Gérard is a graduate of Université de Québec à Hull, from which he received his B.A. with a major in painting and an Education Sciences Certificate. He has been teaching visual arts to children, teenagers, adults, and seniors since 1986 and has been an instructor in the Children's and Teens Program at the Ottawa School of Art since 1994. Gérard was the Children's and Teens Coordinator from September 1999 to June 2001 and is now the Coordinator for the Animation Portfolio Certificate Program at the Ottawa School of Art.
