| "In all my work, in all my mediums, I endeavour to celebrate freedom of expression and the tenacity of human spirit." Robertson's paintings and sculptures are vivid expressions of the resilience and tenacity of the human spirit. She achieves a sense of fun and humour that floats on the surface of her work, overlaying a strength and thoughtfulness below. Nurtured on Cubism and Constructivism, Robertson employs formal elements and principles while embracing the geometric abstractions of Tatlin and Rodchenko and the spiritual philosophy of Kandinsky. Robertson uses contemporary materials such as steel, aluminium and Plexiglas in conjunction with natural painted wood to set up a visual and emotional tension that reflects the uneasy coexistence between nature and society. Robertson divides her time between foundries in New York and her studio in Ottawa and her work can be seen in public, private and corporate collections throughout North America and Europe |
