At 22 years of age, Gilles Rainville is the youngest teacher at the Ottawa School of Art. He grew up in the small town of Sturgeon Falls, Ontario and moved to Ottawa four years ago to become an animator. After receiving his first letter of rejection from the Animation-Television program at Algonquin College of Art and Technology, he enrolled in the General Arts and Science program for one year to improve upon his portfolio. He learned how to draw realistically with precise detail. After reapplying and being declined once more from the animation course, he gained the basis for animation and life drawing by registering in the Pre-Animation program taught by Anne Morgan and Paul West. Applying for a third time, Gilles was finally accepted. At that point, the real work began. He spent the next two years creating animation characters and backgrounds among other animation-related drawings, to bring his ability to a level beyond even his own expectations. Graduating in April 2001, he created a portfolio he could present with pride. As a result of the display at the Animation Open House, he received attention from two Ottawa-based studios.

Gilles is currently working on a private animated project involving original characters and a unique story line just to see the life that animation creates. He believes that the possibilities are endless.
