Community Notice Board

Thank You Ottawa!

A waiting list of deserving kids wishing to go to Summer Art Camp urgently needed help, and Ottawa responded.

The New Sun Fund, administered by the Community Foundation of Ottawa, and the Max Keeping Foundation stepped in, among many individuals, and the urgent appeal has been answered.

All fifteen kids stranded on the waiting list were sent to camp, totaling 35 children whose summer wish of creating art and playing with new friends came true, through the Ottawa School of Art Bursary Program.

Though the Bursary Program receives some funding from donors, the School itself has always felt it was important to support these placements. Running throughout the entire year, the Bursary Program has helped many young families such as Crystal and her 6 year old daughter Keira, surprised that the school would invest in someone so young, Crystal remarks, "We knew she loved to draw and paint, but during the course we discovered Keira is really talented! She was so happy and wants to come back. This bursary also enabled us to spend time in downtown Ottawa, such as skating together on the canal, which we've never done before."

On behalf of all the students of the Bursary Program, thank you Ottawa!
