Cheryl Albuquerque | empire cycle

The Ottawa School of Art Gallery presents empire cycle, a solo
exhibition of paintings by Cheryl Albuquerque from February 6 to March 1, 2003. The exhibition opens Thursday, February 6 from 7pm to 9 pm.

"
Cheryl Albuquerque's empire cycle is a contemplation on our times. Resisting easy answers in favour of grappling with the persistent ambiguities in life, Albuquerque provides us with a window on the cycles of history and human folly. Albuquerque accomplishes this through a canny mix of symbolism, art historical reference, figuration, and pure colour. While current issues are abutted against those of the past, it is the flux of images and forms that manages to speak to our media age and the wash of information to which we are constantly exposed." - Adrian Göllner(2003)

Empire cycle marks the Ottawa based artist's first solo exhibition of paintings. Albuquerque's photographs have been exhibited at the Canadian Museum of Contemporary Photography, across Canada and in Beijing, China.
