On Thursday June 26th, the Ottawa School of Art Gallery is pleased to present From Within, an exhibition of student work from this year’s graduating class. The work of artists Sonia Arenas, Liisa Hayman, Tina Jubinville, Kate Ravenscroft and Christina Robitaille offer the viewer a feast of imagery that will both delight and surprise. Kate Ravenscroft’s and Tina Jubinville refer to the minute form, in a format of multiples. Ravencroft’s creatures are from the imaginary realm of the make-believe, realized through digital imagery. Jubinville draws inspiration from nature; where swarms of mosquitoes seem to be flying toward us from the corner of the room. Sonia Arenas paints portraits of family and friends using bold and expressive strokes on canvas. Christina Robitaille and Liisa Hayman incorporate the medium of printmaking, making reference to history and tradition while employing a playful use of gesture and colour.
The work of these graduating students Art incorporates a variety of mediums; from digital photography, mixed media, painting and a variety of printmaking techniques as well as installation. These young artists have a wide range of concerns including exploring the hidden world of the imagination, the collective unconscious to re- building and examining the pattern of existence.
About The Diploma
Program
The OSA Diploma program places an emphasis on attaining knowledge and
skills fundamental to the practice of the visual arts. The program is
structured to provide access to general study of a variety of studio areas,
while allowing students the opportunity to pursue a particular studio
concentration. These students have successfully completed the OSA’s
diploma program and are well prepared for further study in the visual
arts or to begin their professional practices.
