Historic Art School Showcases Professional Instructor/Artists' Works The Ottawa School of Art presents Instructors I, the first of two annual group exhibitions of work by the School's professional instructors/artists. Continuing a tradition within an institution that dates back to 1879, this exhibition provides an opportunity for the community to witness first-hand the high caliber and wide variety of work and styles that is being produced by many of these instructors. Having a tremendous influence upon Ottawa area culture, these artists are responsible for inspiring and enriching the lives of almost 4,000 students a year - from the novice to the pre-professional to the professional. "The Ottawa School of Art is one of the best kept secrets of our city," observes Sonia Lismer, Executive Director. "We are very fortunate to have a teaching staff of over 50 instructors who bring a high level of professionalism and creative energy to the classes they teach. As a result, many distinguished artistic careers have been launched from the School. Whether someone is interested in painting, drawing, ceramics, printmaking, animation or new media, they are assured of receiving quality instruction from seasoned professionals. And, of course, this exhibit and the Instructors Exhibition II that follows will reflect that." Fifteen artists will be participating in the first Instructor's exhibition: Claude G. Bégin, Gérard Bélec, Pamela Cockcroft-Lasserre, Laura Cosgrave, Andrew Fay, Ken Finch, Christopher Healey, Deidre Heirlihy, Naz Ikramullah, Penelope Kokkinos, Don McVeigh, Britt Quinlan, Linda Sabbath, Blair Sharpe and Carol Weidman. The vernissage for this exhibition will be held on Thursday, August 23, from 5:00 - 7:00 pm. The Ottawa School of Art is located at 35 George Street in the Byward Market. Admission is free.
