Admissions Requirements

FINE AND CONTEMPORARY CRAFTS CERTIFICATE [FCCC] ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

The Fine and Contemporary Craft Certificate Program has a limited number of places. Once a student has been accepted and a contract is signed, registration and tuition payment complete the process.

Portfolios and Projects of Work

Although not always required, having a plan of work is to the advantage of the applicant when it addresses the discipline of choice, techniques and materials the student wants to cover, and the relevance of these studies to the individual’s creative development.

Although not always mandatory, presenting a portfolio of work is an equal advantage. Applicants to the Fine and Contemporary Crafts Certificate Program, who submit a portfolio of recent work, should have 10 and 15 pieces of work. The work should demonstrate the range and quality of the student's experience in art making.

Prerequisites

The Ottawa School of Art requires a grade twelve Ontario Secondary School Diploma or its equivalent. An applicant who does not have a grade twelve diploma, and is 19 years or older, may apply as a Mature Student. All transcripts from institutions previously attended and a signed resume or essay (providing further information on experience in art or design) must accompany each application to this program.

For full details, see "Making a Formal Application".

Interview Process

Prior to registration, an interview with the Diploma Program Coordinator is a requirement for all prospective OSA credit program applicants. The Coordinator is available during specific days for consultation. Interview appointments must be made through the front desk staff or by calling the main number of the school.

The interview will determine the prospective student’s eligibility to the program. If admitted to the program, the Coordinator advises on course selection, a mini-orientation to the school is given and the student should be ready to register as soon as possible following the interview. Although reserved for a short period of time, admittance into the program does not guarantee the courses chosen in the interviewing process nor a place in the current year. Registration is the final step to securing the desired course schedule.

Interviews (and registration) begin late in May of each year and continue until the last Friday in August.

Remember:

You must register with a contract and a surcharge of $25 per course applies as a late registration fee.
