014C | PORTRAITS | INTRO - INTER
This course is an exploration of the concepts of painting as they apply to portraiture. It will focus on developing the skills necessary for representation of the human face as derived from observation. The painting process will involve a study of perspective, light and volume, contour, proportion, scale, colour balance, and the figure-ground relationship. The objective will be to capture a likeness while at the same time invoking the personality and spirit of the subject, and ultimately using the painting experience to express something fundamental to the student’s own vision and creativity.
