040 | INTRO PRINTMAKING | INTRO
In this short workshop students will learn how to prepare a zinc plate, draw on the plate, put on a ground, etch the plate and print from the etched plate and follow up with aquatinting the image and taking further prints Printmaking is a form of art. An original print is the work which the artist realizes through the strengths and limits of that medium. The INTAGLIO printing method, which will be taught, was practiced by Rembrandt, Goya, Whistler and Mary Cassatt in the past.

041 | EXPLORING PRINTMAKING | INTRO - INTER
In this course techniques in intaglio, monoprinting and mixed media will be explored. Students are introduced to drypoints, zinc etching, carborundum prints, collagraph, and chine colle. Emphasis will be on prints functioning as unique images and the expressive quality of the medium. Returning printmakers may wish to continue developing on previous techniques and projects.

042 | INTRODUCTION TO PRINTMAKING | INTRO - INTER
An overview of the four basic print media will introduce students to various methods of printmaking. Introductory students will begin with relief lino or woodcuts and progress to line etchings with option of employing aquatint for tonal graduations. Work on plexiglass and collagraphs are additional options. More advanced students will be able to do larger prints or combine etching with related printing methods to introduce colour into their prints.

043 | INTRO TO WOODCUT PRINTMAKING | INTRO - INTER
Class begins by printing wood blocks using wooden spoons and other simple means to rub images on paper. Later, presses will be employed. Black and white multiple blocks and colours will be investigated. Wood and paper selection, use of tools and methods of cutting and printing will be explored. Students are encouraged to find their own direction, experiment and create! Beginners and advanced students welcome!

044 | POP ART AND PRINTMAKING | INTRO
Pop art is a visual art movement that emerged in the 1950s in Britain and the USA. It challenged tradition by asserting that an artist’s use of the mass-produced visual commodities of popular culture is contiguous with the perspective of fine art. In this class we will explore the concept of pop art through popular images, develop a personal style using printmaking techniques like linocuts, woodcuts, etching, and lithography.
