About the event

Look Deeper: Identity Beyond the Surface

The Ottawa School of Art (OSA) proudly presents Don’t Be Shallow, a collective exhibition by Diploma Students and Alumni that explores the idea of self-representation beyond the literal self-portrait.

Through painting, drawing, and mixed media, each artist reveals a personal interpretation of identity, using symbolism, metaphor, and material to express who they are beneath the surface. These works challenge viewers to look past appearances and consider the many ways the self can be represented without a face.

About the Exhibition

Developed as part of the OSA Diploma Program in Fine Arts, Don’t Be Shallow highlights the creative growth and conceptual depth of students as they refine their artistic practices. Each piece reflects an ongoing process of experimentation and self-discovery, inviting dialogue about what it means to see, and be seen, as an artist.
