About the event

Roger Sutcliffe SCA OSA: Artist Statement

Mark Rothko stated “Art is an adventure into an unknown world, which can be explored by those willing to take risks”. This quote captures what motivates me to push my boundaries, continually exploring new ideas, processes and techniques. Printmaking is an art form capable of limitless expressive capabilities, with printing processes lending themselves to artistic experimentation.

The hand-pulled prints from the series Patience: a Space for Reflection and Thoughtwere created using a number of collagraph plates developed with organic shapes and lines, using found materials and recycled textiles. Using my etching press, unique prints, or editions of prints, are created through printing of multiple layers, resulting in images with simple to complex relationships between lines, shapes, patterns and colours. They leave the visitor in an imaginary space, and evoke responses rooted in memory and experience.

My artistic practice reflects influences of printmakers including Harold Town and Otis Tamasauskas.
