Application Deadline:  11:59 pm (Ottawa time) February 28, 2025. The winner will be announced in March, 2025.

OSA has received funds to cover return travel to Ottawa, accommodations and living expenses during the residency as well as local travel and expenses. Basic studio supplies will be provided to the winning resident.

Eligibility 

  • The residency is open to international artists only.

  • Themes for the residency are social justice and/or the environmental crisis.

  • The residency will be awarded based on the quality of the artist’s work and the viability of their residency project.

  • The residency will be a minimum of one month and could be up to three months.

  • The residency must be completed between September 1 and November 30, 2025 OR between January 1 and March 31, 2026.

  • Participating in the residency is conditional on the artist obtaining a visa and necessary travel documents to enter Canada. If the winning artist cannot obtain the necessary travel documents, then the offer of the residency will be withdrawn and may be awarded to another artist in the competition at the jury’s discretion.

  • The artist must sign a letter of agreement before starting their residency.

  • The artist can work in any print medium, but the focus of the residency will be on traditional print media (intaglio, relief, lithography, monoprints, etc.).

OSA will provide:

  • A formal letter of invitation for the residency.

  • Set periods of free studio time in the specialized studio of choice (i.e. outside scheduled class hours). A studio schedule will be developed with the artist prior to the start of the residency.

  • Basic general studio supplies (e.g. acids and solvents in the print studio, etc.)

  • Assistance to any resident artists (letters of support/invitation, etc.)

  • Wireless internet access at OSA

  • Funds for travel and accommodation

  • Artist may have the opportunity to exhibit completed work in Lee Matasi Gallery.

Resident Artists will be responsible for:

  • Studio supplies (e.g., paper for printing, printing matrix (plates), etc.)

  • A presentation on their work to OSA students

  • 2 studio proofs from each edition to be left at OSA 

  • A presentation of work completed during the residency

  • Artist must also be willing to do a short workshop with youth (OSA Outreach and/or children’s Program) – OSA will pay the artist an honorarium for their teaching time.

Application Process

  • Submit a completed digital application form

  • Submit a maximum 500-word artwork proposal relating to the theme of the residency: social justice and/or the environmental crisis.

  • Submit a project description/work plan for your residency

  • Submit a project budget

  • Tell us how long (approximately) your residency will be

  • Provide tentative start and end dates for your residency project

  • 10 digital images (including any detailed images) of recent work plus a numbered descriptive list of the works submitted

  • Most recent CV and artist’s statement

  • 2 letters of reference demonstrating the artist’s ability to work independently and cooperatively

  • Finalists will be contacted for an online (Zoom, FaceTime, etc.) interview

  • Links to artist’s website and social media channels (Facebook, Instagram +)

Fecha límite de presentación de solicitudes: 23:59 h (hora de Ottawa) 28 de febrero de 2025. El ganador se anunciará en marzo de 2025.

La Escuela de Arte de Ottawa ha recibido fondos para cubrir el viaje de ida y vuelta a Ottawa, el alojamiento y los gastos de manutención durante la residencia, así como los viajes y gastos locales. Se proporcionará material básico de estudio al residente ganador.

Elegibilidad:

  • La residencia está abierta para artistas internacionales.

  • Los temas de la residencia son la justicia social y/o la crisis ambiental.

  • Esta residencia será otorgada en función a la calidad de trabajo y viabilidad del proyecto. 

  • La residencia tendrá una duración mínima de un mes y podrá ser de hasta tres meses.

  • La residencia debe completarse entre el 1 de septiembre y el 30 de noviembre de 2025 O entre el 1 de enero y el 31 de marzo de 2026

  • La participación en esta residencia está condicionada a que el artista obtenga su visa y documentos de viaje necesarios para ingresar a Canadá. Si el artista ganador no obtiene los documentos de viaje necesarios, la oferta será invalidada y será otorgada a otro artista en la competencia a discreción del jurado. 

  • El artista debe firmar una carta aceptando los requisitos dados antes de iniciar su participación. 

  • El artista puede trabajar en cualquier medio de impresión, pero la impresión final debe producirse utilizando medios impresos tradicionales (litografía, hueco grabado,  relieve, monotipos, serigrafía, etc.). 

EAO proporcionara: 

  • Participación mínima de un mes 

  • Acceso libre al estudio o estudios necesarios para el proyecto, (durante el tiempo que el estudio este libre). Antes de que comience la residencia se establecerá un calendario.

  • Acceso a materiales básicos  (por ejemplo, ácidos y solventes de impresión, etc.). 

  • Asistencia con cartas de apoyo / invitación, etc.

  • Acceso a internet inalámbrico en EAO 

  • Fondos para viajes y alojamiento 

  • El artista podrá tener la oportunidad de exponer el proyecto realizado durante la residencia en la Galería Lee Matasi

La persona elegida será responsable de: 

  • Materiales (por ejemplo, papel para imprimir, matriz de impresión placas, etc.) 

  • Presentación sobre su trabajo a los estudiantes de OSA 

  • Donar 2 pruebas de cada edición impresa durante la residencia  en OSA 

  • Una presentación del trabajo realizado durante su estadía 

  • El artista realizará un taller para el “programa para jóvenes”. el tiempo de enseñanza será remunerado.

Proceso de solicitud: 

  • Enviar su solicitud digital, no se aceptaran aplicaciones impresas solo digitales.  

  • El tema es: justicia social y / o la crisis ambiental, presentar propuesta de 500 palabras 

  • Adjuntar descripción del proyecto / plan de trabajo 

  • Adjunte presupuesto para este proyecto 

  • Enviar tiempo aproximado en realizarse el proyecto 

  • Proporcione fechas tentativas de inicio y finalización de su proyecto 

  • 10 imágenes digitales de trabajos recientes 

  • Adjuntar semblanza y/o CV reciente y declaración de su proyecto 

  • 2 cartas de referencia sobre su capacidad de trabajo individual y en grupo (en inglés o español)

  • Los finalistas serán contactados para una entrevista en línea (Zoom, FaceTime, etc.)

  • Enlaces a redes sociales des artistas (sitios web, Facebook, Instagram y otros)
