“Ottawa Paints”

 

The Ottawa School of Art Landscape Painting Contest 2025 – a fundraiser for the Outreach Program

On the heels of the successful 2024 Portrait contest, OSA will be launching “Ottawa Paints”, a landscape painting contest where the subject must be a scene from Ottawa/Gatineau region. This exciting contest is a fundraiser for the school’s Outreach program.

The contest will run from May 1, 2025 – June 16, 2025 at 9pm EST.  A group of finalists will be selected by an independent three-person esteemed jury, and the jury will make their final decision by July 3, 2025 at the vernissage. The successful applicant for the contest will receive a $3,500 cash prize. New this year, Desjardins youth prize of $1,000 will be awarded for the youth category, ages 12-17.

 

There will be a special category for a “People’s Choice” landscape, where the general public can vote for their favourite landscape by ballot during the vernissage at Shenkman Arts Centre on July 3, 5pm – 8pm (must be present to vote). The successful applicant from the People’s Choice category will receive a $350 gift certificate to be redeemed for a course at OSA.

All submitted landscape paintings will be available to view online after submissions are complete.

All entries for the contest will be exhibited at the Orleans Campus located within the Shenkman Arts Centre, from June 30 – July 6, 2025.

 

All Artwork produced for the landscape painting contest will be offered for sale in OSA’s Orleans Gallery as part of the fundraiser. Artists will receive a 50/50 split of sold artworks.

Conditions and requirements for the Landscape Contest are below, please read carefully:

 

  • Artworks must be of a landscape scene in the Ottawa/Gatineau area,

 

  • Any medium taught at the Ottawa School of Art is accepted, painting, drawing, printmaking, mixed media and textile art are accepted

  • Maximum size 40”x 40”, 102cm x 102cm 

 

  • The contest winner will be chosen by an independent three-person jury.

 

  • The jury will be looking for the best combination of skill, concept and originality,

 

  • Artist must provide a photo proving they were present in the landscape scene of their artwork (please submit a photo of yourself and your artwork in situ, these photos will not be shared with the public only photos of artwork will be posted online),

 

  • The entry fee is $25.00 CAD for adults, and applicants must register using this link: LINK

Fee can be paid online using link, or can be paid by phone or in-person at either campus.

 

  • There is no entry fee required for youth (12-17), however they are still required to register using link: LINK

 

  • Submitted works must be created during the contest period only: May 1 – June 16, 2025

 

  • Submission deadline is June 16th at 9 PM EST by email to landscape-contest@artottawa.ca . Please submit:

    • A photo of yourself and your artwork in situ (will not be shared with the public)

    • A photo of just your artwork, which will be featured on the Ottawa School of Art website after the contest deadline

    • Your proof of payment of contest entry fee

 

  • All artwork must be then dropped off in person at Shenkman Arts Centre, Orleans during the week of June 16 – 20 for exhibition and sale (see hours below):

  • Artwork must be ready to hang with hanging gear attached, drawings must be matted and ready to hang,

 

  • Artwork must be identified on back with business card or contact information, and accompanied by a submission form
